How to Hire, Fire, and Not Get Sued!

Tips for Protecting Your Business

From Employment Lawsuits

Hundreds of thousands of employment-related claims are brought in every State every year by employees against their employers.  Meanwhile, employers need to comply with more and more newly passed employment laws every year.  In this program, an experienced employment law attorney shares with us best practices employers can adopt to better insulate themselves against legal liability.

We'll discuss:

  • Who can be classified as a freelancer or independent contractor, and who must be classified as an employee?

  • What does at-will employment really mean?

  • How to handle employee performance issues to reduce legal exposure?

  • What are best practices when it comes to hiring and firing?

  • What steps can employers take to reduce vulnerability to unpaid wage and other wage and hour claims?

  • What leaves of absence are employees legally entitled to, including discussion of paid sick, pregnancy , medical leaves and accommodations.
